7/30/2019 - The construction of the Costa Toscana has begun at the Meyer Turku shipyard, where her sister ship Costa Smeralda is nearing completion. Dame Helen Mirren Announced as Godmother of Scenic Eclipse

Scenic is honored to announce the appointment of Academy Award winner Helen Mirren as the Godmother for the world’s first Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse. Spirit of Adventure Keel Laying Ceremony at Germany's Meyer Werft Shipyard.

Saga marked the keel laying of its second new cruise ship for the British market, Spirit of Adventure, with a ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on Monday, June 3rd.
The 999-passenger ship will set sail in summer 2020 and the keel laying marked the official start of construction.

A commemorative coin stamped with Spirit of Adventure’s name, keel-laying date and the lettering S715 – denoting the identification marker for the ship during her build and until she is formally handed over by Meyer Werft to Saga in summer 2020 – was placed under the first block in the dry dock where a total of 54 blocks will be used to create the 58,250 gross tons ship.

Spirit of Adventure will have an overall length of 774.3ft with a breadth of 102.4ft

Portugal Based Mystic Cruises Anticipates US Office.

Portuguese based Mystic Cruises is said to be opening their United States operations in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The small ship, luxury exploration cruise line currently has 1 ship in operation - the World Explorer. Another ship under construction, World Navigator and another three ships expected.

Mystic Cruises is using a combined operating principles including operating the ships under the Mystic Brand and chartering them out for the remainder of the time. Quark Expeditions is expected to charter the vessels at least part of the year.

Princess Cruises' New Enchanted Princess to Enter Service June 30, 2020

Princess Cruises has commenced the one year countdown to the launch of the new Enchanted Princess in Southampton on June 30, 2020.

The vessel will carry 3,660 guests and sail from Southampton for an inaugural season in the Mediterranean before heading to the Caribbean in autumn 2020.

Its maiden voyage will be a 10-night sailing to Rome, calling at Bilbao, Lisbon, Gibraltar, Barcelona, Toulon/Provence (La Seyne) and Florence/Pisa (Livorno), departing on July 1, 2020.

The is currently well under construction in Italy's Fincantieri Shipyard.

MSC Cruises' New MSC Seashore to Debut in the Mediterranean in June 2021 - Under Construction at Italy's Fincantieri Shipyard

MSC Cruises — the Swiss-based world’s largest privately-owned cruise line — has today announced the opening of sales for MSC Seashore for her inaugural season in the Western Mediterranean. Starting in June 2021, she will sail a seven-night itinerary calling at the high-demand ports of Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Naples, Messina and Valetta.
 All guests will be able to book cruises starting July 11, 2019. MSC Seashore will be the third ship in the innovative Seaside generation, following MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview, which launched in 2017 and 2018 respectively, and the first of two enriched Seaside Evo ships with extended public spaces, more staterooms and the highest ratio of outdoor space per guest of any cruise ship in the Company’s fleet.

Carnival Cruises' Carnival VIsta is Loaded On The Floating Drydock for Azipod Repairs.

Two videos have been released showing the positioning of the Carnival Vista on the floating drydock - Bokis Vanguard off the coast of the Bahamas. The 135,000 ton cruise ship was gently moved into position on the submerged drydock on July 12/13th. After being secured in place, water was pumped out of the floating drydock raising the Carnival Vista out of the water.

Repairs to the ships' azipods will occur over the next 2 weeks, after which  the ship will be removed from the drydock. After floating again the Carnival Vista will return to Galveston, Texas on 7-27-2019 to resume her 7-day cruise program.

The Carnival Vista is a new ship which entered the Carnival Fleet in 2016, but has been plagued with power and propulsion issues over the past 4 weeks. The current repairs should resolve the above stated issues. .

Carnival Cruise Lines' newest cruise ship - the Carnival Panorama is undergoing sea trials in the Mediterranean. The newest Carnival cruise ship which will join the fleet this December has reached another major construction milestone. The purpose of the sea trials is to make sure the new ship performs up to the specifications of the contract. In addition the ship's systems are placed under an aggressive set of tests to assure the ship handles well and that all of the technical and hotel related services work effectively and any glitches are rectified before being delivered to Carnival Cruises.

Arctech Shipyard Helsinki Finland Re-enters the Cruise Market with the Order of 2 Exploration Cruise Ships

Helsinki Shipyard — once a leading builder of cruise ships has signed an agreement for two luxury expedition vessels. The order is from Vodohod Ltd., Russia’s largest river cruise company and an affiliate of the yard’s new owners. The plans include Vodohod entering the deep-sea exploration cruise market by placing the vessels on charter to unidentified operators. The 148-passenger vessels are expected to sail in the Arctic, Antarctica and the tropics.
Planned delivery is August 2021 and January 2022. The price was not disclosed.
Design work is underway. The vessels will measure approximately 110 meters in length and 20 meters at the beam, with Polar Class 6 designation. Maximum crew capacity will be 110.
This is the First order since the yard’s sale on the May 20. The move shifted ownership from  Archtech Helsinki Shipyard to Algador Holdings. Algador Holdings is owned by Russians Rishat Bagautdinov and Vladimir Kasyanenko, whose holdings include Vodohod. The yard plans to…

Royal Caribbean Orders 3rd Icon Class Ship From Meyer Werft, Turku, Finland

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced on July 2nd, 2019 it has ordered a third Icon Class ship for delivery in 2025.

The agreement to build a third ship was placed with shipbuilder Meyer Turku.
Once complete, the ship will join sister Icon Class ships, which are set to be delivered in 2022 and 2024.

Very little is publicly known about Royal Caribbean's Icon Class ships, other than they will accommodate approximately 5,000 passengers and be powered by a combination of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel cell technology.

Carnival Vista’s Propulsion System to be Repaired Using First-Of-Its-Kind ‘Floating Dry Dock’

Carnival Cruise Line announced today that Netherlands-based Boskalis, a worldwide leader in marine solutions, will deploy a transport vessel as a first of its kind “floating dry dock” facility to complete the repairs to Carnival Vista’s two azipods, the ship’s main propulsion system. The procedure will entail loading the ship onto a semi-submersible heavy transport vessel, Boka Vanguard, and then docking the vessel at the Grand Bahama shipyard for the repair work.  


“This groundbreaking procedure made possible by Boskalis is a revolutionary way to ensure Carnival Vista’s repairs are completed in a safe, timely and efficient manner, so the ship can resume her popular seven-day schedule from Galveston later this month,” said Lars Ljoen, executive vice president of marine operations for Carnival Cruise Line.

Keel-Laying Ceremony Held for Mardi Gras Set to Debut in Europe in August 2020

In keeping with maritime tradition, a keel-laying ceremony was held today at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, for Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras, which is scheduled to enter service in August 2020. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to Name Saga’s New Cruise Ship Spirit of Discovery

Saga is delighted to announce HRH The Duchess of Cornwall as the Godmother of its newly built boutique cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery. The naming ceremony will take place in Dover, Kent, on 5 July 2019. She will be the first cruise ship to be named at the Port of Dover for over a decade, and the first to be docked at Dover Western Docks following the £250m redevelopment of the area.
Before the naming ceremony, HRH will be given a tour of the ship. In building Spirit of Discovery, classic and contemporary materials and furnishings have been combined to create a luxurious environment. The 1,000 plus pieces of art on board will include 400 original pieces commissioned from British based artists and artisans. Hush Heath, an independent wine producer from Kent, will provide a jeroboam of their sparkling wine for the naming ceremony that has been specially blended for Spirit of Discovery.
