Preparing for her inaugural 3-daycruise from Long Beach California to Ensenada Mexico, the third Vista-class cruise ship is in the final stages of construction. To be the first new Carnival ship to be based on the West Coast in 20 years, her arrival is to be a celebrated event.  The ship Carnival Panorama weighing in at 133,500 gross tons with a guest capacity of 3,900+ double occupancy is expected to leave Italy's Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in November 2019. Select crew members and shipyard laborers are working in parallel as the ship is receiving her final touches to both public spaces and staterooms.  Staffing a ship the size of the Carnival Panorama is not an easy feat, loading some 6,000 mattresses, 13,000 pillows, 43,000 sheets, and 100,000 towels takes allot of manpower and time. As construction continues, more  staff will join the ship to make sure everything is just right for the ship's introduction in December. It is expected that the Carni

World’s First Hybrid Expedition Ship to be Christened in Antarctica

Image
Hurtigruten, the world leader in exploration travel, will be christening the world’s first hybrid electric–powered expedition cruise ship this fall in Antarctica. MS Roald Amundsen was named after polar hero Roald Amundsen who led the first expedition to cross the Northwest Passage, the first expedition to the South Pole, and the first expedition proven to have reached the North Pole. The ship’s naming ceremony is set to honor his legacy with a ritual invented by Amundsen.  “We can think of no better place to name the truly unique MS Roald Amundsen than the waters of Antarctica, where no ship has ever been christened before,” Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam says. When christening his famed expedition ship Maud in 1917, Roald Amundsen switched from using the traditional bottle of champagne to a chunk of ice. Before crushing the ice against her bow, he stated: “It is not my intention to dishonor the glorious grape, but already now you shall get the taste of you

Construction of Havila Kystruten's New Ships in Spain has been Temporarily Placed on Hold News out of Spain says that work has temporarily stopped in 2 cruise ships being built for Havila Kystruten by Spanish shipbuilder Hijos de J. Barrera. The two ships are being built for the Norwegian Coastal Market in an agreement with the Norwegian Government. The ships are supposed to be LNG powered and "Green Ships" once completed. The issue is supposedly around the ship's draft and weight - which can negatively impact the speed of the vessels and fuel consumption. Reports indicate that the shipyard has offered a number of solutions to the problem and is awaiting a decision from Havila. There are two addition vessels being constructed in Turkey and those ships are reportedly on schedule.   ---------------------------------------------- Sister Sites => NYCruiseInfo.com Website - Cruise Schedule, Ship Reviews, Ports of Call & More. => Nic
