Helsinki Shipyard — once a leading builder of cruise ships has signed an agreement for two luxury expedition vessels. The order is from Vodohod Ltd., Russia’s largest river cruise company and an affiliate of the yard’s new owners. The plans include Vodohod entering the deep-sea exploration cruise market by placing the vessels on charter to unidentified operators. The 148-passenger vessels are expected to sail in the Arctic, Antarctica and the tropics.

Planned delivery is August 2021 and January 2022. The price was not disclosed.
Design work is underway. The vessels will measure approximately 110 meters in length and 20 meters at the beam, with Polar Class 6 designation. Maximum crew capacity will be 110.

This is the First order since the yard’s sale on the May 20. The move shifted ownership from  Archtech Helsinki Shipyard to Algador Holdings. Algador Holdings is owned by Russians Rishat Bagautdinov and Vladimir Kasyanenko, whose holdings include Vodohod.

The yard plans to rapidly expand its order book by signing additional cruise ship orders for smaller, mid sized and large vessels - since many yards have full orderbooks. In addition, the yard hopes to leverage its experience with construction polar class vessels.
